Q: How have you found the modular approach of your Quality Practitioner apprenticeship?
A: The modular approach has been incredibly effective for me, especially as I was early in my career. Unlike traditional CPD courses that are intense and sometimes offer limited follow-up, the apprenticeship gave me the chance to learn at my own pace, apply the theory, and then come back to my coach for guidance. It was so helpful to be able to ask questions and revisit concepts as I needed, which made it much easier to understand and apply what I was learning, particularly in a service-based company where the concepts weren’t always directly tangible.

Q: What advice would you give to someone thinking about doing a Quality Practitioner apprenticeship?
A: My main advice is to not see it as a backup plan if you didn’t get into university. It’s not the same, and it can be even more rewarding, especially if you’re a hands-on person. The expectations are different, and remember, you’ll need to balance work and study: four days of work plus one day of learning each week. If you’re ready for the challenge of time management, it’s a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and learn a lot in a short space of time.

Q: Has anything else influenced your approach to quality management?
A: The book “The Checklist Manifesto” really put quality management into perspective for me. It showed how complex tasks can be simplified, making them more achievable. While it wasn’t directly tied to my learning, it definitely helped me realise that even the most difficult challenges can be tackled by breaking them down, which has been a key takeaway for me.

We believe everyone has the potential to be natural problem solvers.
