Level 5 Improvement Specialist Improvement Journey

What happens when you take your Green Belt expertise and elevate it with a Level 5 Improvement Specialist Apprenticeship? For Arron Hudd, it sparked a transformation not just in his approach to process improvement but in the very DNA of AXA Global Healthcare’s operations.

In this episode of Room for Improvement, Arron shares how the Level 5 Improvement Specialist Apprenticeship has refined his skills and expanded his ability to drive change across the organisation. Equipped with advanced Lean Six Sigma tools, he led a major overhaul of the claims process, reducing turnaround times by an impressive 45%. The impact didn’t stop there; Arron’s expertise helped embed a culture of Continuous Improvement. By mentoring colleagues and guiding them through key improvement projects, he ensured the changes were sustainable, reshaping processes and empowering teams.

By adopting a recognised approach in the business for problem solving and Continuous Improvement, it means that there is a DNA to how we investigate and resolve issues.

The Level 5 Improvement Specialist Apprenticeship isn’t just about managing improvement: it’s about mastering the tools and strategies to make a real impact. Ready to elevate your skills, transform processes, and create lasting value? Find out how this programme can help you do just that.

Apprenticeship Highlights

Q: How did you find the modular approach of the apprenticeship?
A: The modular approach was really helpful as it aligned learning with project phases, making it easier to apply new skills when needed. Having access to recorded sessions was a huge benefit; sometimes you think you’ve understood something in the session, but when applying it, you realise you need to revisit it.

Working with a mix of people from both inside and outside the business was also a big plus and the program was well-paced and never felt rushed. There was a good balance between theory and practical application, with breakout activities and real-world homework to take back into the business. Overall, it was a really interesting and valuable experience.

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?
A: It’s crucial to have solid support in place, as throughout the programme you need to apply your learning in a real business context. First, understand the apprenticeship’s requirements, including off-the-job hours and learning expectations. Second, stay focused on the long-term benefits: the dedication you invest upfront will be far outweighed by the valuable skills and career growth you’ll gain.
